"Hello Martha, ISB has over 300 ESL students K-12 with 18 ESL teachers (some part-time). I wonder how you schedule ESL support in the classes in ES. Do you cluster the students with specific teachers or pull students out of class?"

Getting Started

I would like to thank Wendy for starting this forum. The idea for EAL 2.0 came from Wendy's curiosity about ISB's student language survey and my interest in JIS's school language policy. An exchange of ideas with EAL/ESL teachers in International Schools can enrich teaching and learning experiences. EAL 2.0 can act as a meeting space for international EAL teachers willing to share expertise, float ideas and give feedback. Together we can make a… Continue

Hi Barbara!

There are about 910 students in our high school and middle school combined. We don't have an ESL program in the high school and only one ESL teacher in the middle school who provides support classes during elective slots that are mixed across grade levels. The middle school can accommodate ELLs two years below grade level Our elementary school has just over 900 students with four ESL teachers providing support. After eight years at JIS in MSESOL, I am now working in the upper elementary at ASD.
